About The Library Supply CompanyPastIn 1990, the company was established as Chivers New Zealand Ltd, a subsidiary of UK large print and audio book publisher, Chivers Press. In 1993, a change of name to The Library Supply Company reflected our independence from Chivers and the broadening of our range of products and services. In 1998, we moved to Murdoch Road in Grey Lynn, Auckland. In 2002, we undertook our initial collection development project, for Rodney District Libraries. In 2003, we were appointed as New Zealand agents for Askews Library Services. PresentWe deal with every public library in New Zealand and with many schools and special libraries. Our initial specialization in large print and audio books has widened to include other non-print formats - music CDs, multimedia CD-Roms, video, DVD and language learning materials. In response to the move towards outsourcing of technical services by libraries, we have developed a full range of services including selection, marc cataloguing and shelf-ready processing for all material formats. Our staff of nine includes several with library qualifications and experience. We are currently working on several supply contracts to stock new libraries and manage specific collections of large print books and AV materials. As the local presence for Askews Library Services, we are strengthening existing relationships and helping to win new business. FutureEnhancements to our computer system will improve efficiency and enable us to meet the demand for electronic service delivery, including online ordering and EDI. While we expect that contracts with larger metropolitan libraries for shelf-ready collections will be an increasing proportion of our business, we will continue to deliver a friendly, personalized service to all libraries, large and small. |
